Big Ass Grill
July 15th 2004 by cybertoad in domestic, maritalSo, a couple of months ago my husband made the decision that our grill just wasn’t big enough anymore. *sigh* I told him he could replace it if and only if he found a new home for the old grill because it was still in great shape since it was only two years old.
Since it’s been a few months I had forgotten about it. I guess he hadn’t. During this weekend’s BBQ he announces to me that he found someone to take the grill (our friend EJ who just moved into their brand new house) and that they could even take it that night since they had a truck at their disposal. It didn’t stop there – Kenny had already had his eye on a grill at Target so the guys actually headed over to Target that same evening (yes, guests were still at the house). Unfortunately, they no longer carried the grill he wanted so he came home empty handed.
No problem. Kenny researched his options and by Monday evening we were running around looking for the exact model he had selected. Several store visits and calls to several more turned up nothing – either it wasn’t stocked at all or they didn’t have any in stock at the time. A trip to Academy solved all our problems. It was not the exact one he wanted but it was still a highly rated brand and it was $100 cheaper than the one he originally wanted with a few more features.
It was bought, shoved into the Jeep (the box was huuuge) and brought home. Kenny began assembling the base and by the time I got home the next day, he had brought his friend over, they had finished putting it together and were already testing the burners when I walked out to the patio! May I introduce our new, huge ass stainless steel, 7 burner grill! Yes, it has 6 main burners, a 7th burner on the side (good for cooking things in a pot), a little sink on the other side (to store ice and drinks or I guess fill with water to clean stuff), a drawer for the utensils and a cabinet underneath to store other grilling stuff including a slide out shelf to hold the propane tank. The padded grill cover was even included and the price was very, very reasonable.
I don’t why I had to share our grill-buying experience but I just thought it was funny to see my husband so determined to get what he wanted. When he sets his mind to it, he gets it done.
And yes, we used it the first night it was assembled! We had steaks, corn-on-the-cob, red onions and shrimp – all grilled. Some thinsg were better than others but he still has to learn how it cooks and I’m looking forward to his upcoming dinners!

Oh, that’s a nice one. I’m the griller in this family, and really the only one who eats meat, so we have just about the smallest one made.

i just wish my patio was bigger so i can enjoy our grill, too. Tom always has to grill and come inside. we don’t have room to eat outside. i love the grill you got! Tom bought the BBQ Bible the other day. let’s have another BBQ and get away from the traditional sausage, burgers, hotdogs stuff.
