Haircut, alcohol & Houston Press

July 19th 2004 by cybertoad in re-caps

Sorry – it’s been a busy day here at work so the re-cap is a little late… You know the drill. Just clock on (more) to get the full scoop!

Friday: Got my hair cut after work (it’s very short – I’ll take a picture when I can) and came home. Kenny picked me up after he played pool and we went to Robert’s house. We picked up KFC on the way and enjoyed introducing Robert to the wacky, zany and irresistibly funny French-Canadian animation, The Triplets of Belleville.

Saturday: Had an early start and picked up Hanna and headed over to her parent’s house in Humble. Her mother is being so kind as to hem the skirt of my bridesmaid’s dress and she needed to see how much to hem (4 1/2 inches!). After a yummy lunch (also kindly prepared by her mother), we headed to a scrapbooking crop party for the rest of the afternoon.

Saturday night: Came home as my husband and Robert were getting back as well. They had spent the day shopping and had stopped by Central Market to buy food for dinner. Kenny grilled some tuna and some sausages and we all got stuffed on all the good food.

Afterwards we dressed up and headed Downtown to hit some bars. I had already had an orange Zima and Downtown I had 2 glasses of Chianti at La Carafe, a mojito at Saba’s and a glass of zinfandel at Warren’s. Needless to say I was a bit tipsy by the time we got home and I went straight to bed.

Sunday: I made a late start (yes, with a slight hangover) and consequently all my gardening plans went to hell. Waking up at 1:30 PM when the heat index has now risen to 100 F and you can understand why I didn’t even attempt to work in the front yard pulling up plants and trimming shrubs. So instead I had a light lunch, headed to the couch and promptly fell asleep on the couch with the TV on. I felt guilty but at the same time, I hadn’t had a lazy weekend day in a loooooong time.

When I woke up a little later I did actually help Kenny clean up the kitchen a bit. Together we took care of the pile of dishes and we cleaned up the pantry that had had a strange smell emanating from it (a sack of rotting potatoes we had forgotten about was the culprit).

Sunday night: I headed out to Onion Creek to meet with a Houston Press writer who is interested in writing a story on the local blog scene. It was very casual (she even bought me a cider) and we actually chatted about non-blog stuff more than blog stuff. She says I gave her some good information though and will be talking to her editor to see what direction to take the story. We enjoyed each other’s company so much that we may try to get together some other time too.

As you can see I had a nice weekend full of good friends, good food and good drinks. What more can a girl ask for?
