Christmas in July

I bet you’re wondering why these two images are up there together… well… it’s because Kenny and I will spending Christmas in Paris, France!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had thought of this trip a few months back but felt it would be too expensive. This weekend Kenny asked me if I could give up our planned wedding anniversary trip to San Francisco then we could afford to go to Paris. I hesitated for a split second before saying yes. We went to San Francisco in 2000 but I haven’t spent any significant time in Paris since 1996 (I don’t count the one rainy day we spent there during our honeymoon in ‘98). Kenny has never spent any time in the city and I have been wanting to take him and show him around. I actually prefer Paris over London and had dreamed of going to Paris during the holidays – it just sounds so romantic and I know the city will be lit up so beautifully. With a crisp chill in the air and practically empty streets (there won’t be many tourists and most Parisians will be spending time with their families), it will be an ideal time to walk the city. If we get too cold a warm coffee at one of the thousand cafes will warm us back up.
So Kenny booked our flights already and also reserved us a hotel through Priceline.com. December 22nd can’t come soon enough… we’ll be there five nights – almost a week – and will be back home just in time to spend New Year’s Eve with our friends.
And for anyone wondering how our family feels about this, don’t worry. Kenny and I hardly have any family left and we always stay home for Christmas, celebrating only with my Mother. I talked to her about it and she was OK with it – she thinks it’s a wonderful idea. I told her we would most likely finally be able to spend Thanksgiving with her (we never have in the past 7 years because we always visited Kenny’s side of the family) and we can still celebrate Christmas just a few days early.
Whee! Can you tell how excited I am? I still can’t believe we are going!

Your description of walking the wintry Parisien streets sounds fantastic, have a great time! I went for a class trip about 6 years ago and am longing to go back.

That sounds SO WONDERFUL!!! Rome and Paris are the two cities I want to visit at Christmas time before I die. *sigh* How I looooooved Paris!
I will add though that Ste of Wanderlost.org was there at Christmas last year, and he had to wait something like 3-4 hours to climb to the top of Notre Dame, there were a LOT of tourist when he was there. Just an FYI. But tourists? Who cares when you’re in PARIS!!!
