An apple a day…
August 5th 2004 by cybertoad in fun stuffI bought some apples recently as a healthy snack alternative. As I was eating it the other day I thought about how I always pick a certain type of apple – Gala apples to be exact.
I’ve never really liked the dark Red Delicious or the green Granny Smiths… I like Gala’s – not too big, not too small and always sweet and juicy.
How about you? Do you have a favorite kind of apple that you always buy at the grocery store?
And while we are the subject of apples, is there another way you like to eat them? For example, candied or in a pie or with peanut butter? Besides eating apples raw I also only like apples in a good old fashioned apple pie (warm and gooey with lots of crumbles on top) or coupled with cheese like brie or a sharp goat cheese. Yummy! Oh wait, and I can’t forget cool, crisp apple cider on a hot summer evening!

I always liked granny smiths with peanut butter, I also like them in pies, cobblers, baked, candied, oh, name it for an apple and I like it

I, too, like Gala apples…but last time I was in Seattle I bought a bunch and those suckers were massive! Massive!!

My apple choice is a MacIntosh! …. don’y know if they’re available in the USA or not. They’re crisp and sweet and juicy, … I like to eat an apple with cheese and a knife.

i like Granny Smith with swiss cheese. however, i like granny smith just plain now. i’ve had them with peanut butter, too.

you MUST try pink lady apples. they are tart, but less so than the granny smith, with a texture that is closer to a red apple. i love the pink ladies just as they are.
i also like baked apples, apple pie, apples with peanut butter. i’ve never had apples with cheese, but those are two things i like, so i’m sure i’d like them together.

I’m with Lynn, Macintosh are the best! (Yes there are available in the US…well in Texas anyway!) But a Gala will do just as well. For a special treat, I like Granny Smiths with caramel,Mmmmmmm!!

I like ‘em all! I don’t think I have a favorite, but my favorite way to eat them is simply sliced up and sprinkled with a little salt.
