Lazy Labor Day Weekend
September 8th 2004 by cybertoad in re-capsHello guys. It has been hard to recover from the 3-day weekend. Not because I went wild and crazy but just because I hadn’t taken a day off in a long time and it just wasn’t enough. My mind isn’t back yet and putting together a blog entry just seemed so energy consuming that I put it off – but I couldn’t put it off any longer so here is my weekend re-cap…
Friday night: It was Mandy’s birthday
so we were meeting her and her friends at Prive’s for some celebratory drinks. Nine of us went to dinner at Baba Yega’s beforehand though and had an equally fun time catching up on each other’s lives.
Saturday: Woke up around noon to Kenny’s unusually cheerful disposition (I typically wake him up, not the other way around) and we headed out for the day. We had lunch, hit Trader’s Village Flea Market and a couple more stores. We were pretty tired at the end of the day so instead of going out to a movie we stayed home and watched TV.
Sunday: Kathy and I made plans to spend the afternoon together so I headed out to pick her up. After a few misses because several restaurants we liked were closed on Sunday, we finally settled on a place for lunch. Neither one of us was impressed with the service or food (although the miso soup was tasty) so I don’t think we’ll be going back. My biggest complaint? I was actually rather insulted that although they asked Kathy if she wanted chopsticks (she is Asian) they didn’t bother to give me the option and just gave me a fork. I’m sorry, but that’s insulting and a bit discriminatory!! Either give *everyone* the option or give everyone both a fork and chopsticks! Despite my white skin I can and prefer to use chopsticks when I eat sushi, even if I don’t use them that gracefully. Kathy was guite amused at my frustration.
After lunch we headed out to find the 15 Mickey Mouse statues that are in town as part of Mickey’s 75th Anniversary celebration.
We got pictures of them all (here is my photo album) and then headed to the newly rebuilt IKEA.
Sunday night: I dropped Kathy off and got home around when Kenny got home from his own run around town. Since we skipped out on a planned movie night the day before we checked times and headed out to the last showing of Garden State.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable movie and highly recommended!!! Kenny especially thought this was Natalie Portman’s best acting yet.
Monday: We had no plans this day but we were lazy and decided to go out for a late lunch of crab legs at Red Lobster. We stuffed ourselves on 1 1/2 lbs. of legs each and made the mistake of stopping by Marshall’s on the way home. *sigh* Kenny bought some shoes and a few nice storage boxes for his family photos and I put some pants and a cute tweed jacket on lay-away. I didn’t get out the door though without some cute beaded linen pants (on sale for $15!) and a gorgeous light-weight canvas coat (only $25) that I *had* to have and may make its way to Paris. Kenny also bought me some nice, comfy Born shoes.
We spent the rest of the day lazing around the house… which brings us back to work on Tuesday. Yuck. Doesn’t help that my allergies started acting up yesterday as well. Ugh. Is it Friday yet?

I would have been insulted too! I love using chopsticks when I go to an oriental restaurant of any kind (Vietnamese is my favorite). How dare they assume that you need only a fork!! Not a huge matter for soap-boxing but worthy of a quick rant.
Friday is almost here.

I agree, Elaine…one day isn’t enough at Labor Day. We need three extra days, minimum. One day is like being teased!
