Go Texan Day!

February 25th 2005 by cybertoad in general

Today is “Go Texan Day” and it signals the upcoming start of the annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Schools and businesses across the city ask everyone to wear western-style clothes. Here at work we are even having a chili contest.

Kenny and I stayed up late making our chili (suffice to say we were at the grocery store at midnight) but it got done and it smells good. Everyone else’s smells great too although my poor boss’s vegetarian chili was strewn all over her car this morning. Someone cut her off on the freeway and then slammed on the brakes. The crockpot of chili became a victim and it went everywhere. We are getting it cleaned up now before it sets in but I feel so bad for her.

Do any other cities have events like this showcasing state pride? Or are we just weird that way? Wait, don’t answer that…

Update: Kenny’s spicy chili won 3rd place and we won a wonderful BBQ grill kit from the management company! The set is really nice – all the tools have redwood handles and come packed in a hard plastic carrying case. I’m glad our efforts were rewarded!
