Buggy Bug
March 9th 2005 by cybertoad in beetle buzzSo Betty is in the shop today.
About three weeks ago I found I had trouble starting her up when I was out running errands. She started fine in the mornings and after work but during shorter trips, she struggled and I had to give her some gas to get the engine to stay running. I made an appointment to take her in to the dealership but they were booked if I wanted a loaner car and I couldn’t get an appointment until today.
About two weeks ago the dreaded “check engine” light came on but then turned itself off by the end of the day. A few days pass and there it is again, but only for an hour. Finally, on the follwing day it decides to stay on and has been on for over a week and a half. I went by a battery store to rule out that simple solution but they told me my battery sounded strong and that it was probably a fuel system issue. Yuck – fuel pumps aren’t cheap.
So I left Betty at the bug doctor this morning and just got a call from the service technician. He says it was only the ‘coolant temperature sensor’ which is covered under my super-duper warranty. Yay! He also recommended I get my hoses replaced soon because they are starting to crack so I told them to do that too since I have a service coupon I can use. He says they have all the parts in stock so Blue Betty will be back home tonight!
For now I am driving a white Jetta – although I still prefer the way my Bug drives over the Jettas…
In other bug news, I finally replaced my stolen antenna with this cute one I found on eBay. Yeah, the antenna can be easily screwed off and stolen and my original was taken back in January at the last H-Town Bloggers get-together. Let’s see how long this one lasts before it’s taken too!
