Happy Valentine’s!

February 14th 2006 by cybertoad in marital, re-caps, travel

Happy Valentine’s Day to all my fellow bloggers (and blurkers of course). Hope you have a nice day, whether or not you are with someone.

Kenny and I celebrated our Valentine’s early – actually, Kenny gets all the credit! A couple of weeks ago he asked me if I had the weekend free. I did so he told me to keep it free because he had made plans. I decided to not ask for many details so I could be surprised. All I knew was that 1) I needed to bring to bring a dressy casual outfit and a dressy outfit, 2) we were traveling by car but not very far so the same weather forecast was similar to Houston’s and 3) it would be overnight and the dogs would not be coming with us but they were going to be taken care of.

I had a few guesses but had no idea what the details were. One of my guesses was right – he took me down to Galveston Saturday! We arrived in the afternoon and checked in to the historic Hotel Galvez. It’s a gorgeous place and the building faces the Gulf, right on the Seawall. Kenny requested a Gulf view… our room did have one even though we were in the corner but I didn’t mind.

That evening we headed to our dinner reservation at The Steakhouse located inside another historic hotel, the San Luis. My filet mignon dinner was fabulous and the restaurant’s top rating is well deserved. At dinner Kenny surprised me yet again and gave me a beautiful pearl bracelet! After dinner we headed down to The Strand area and had a nightcap.

Sunday we checked out and headed to lunch at the Mosquito Cafe. To complete the weekend, Kenny had bought us tickets to see a small play at the local community theater, The Strand Theatre. The play was put on to help raise funds the theater and we really enjoyed it.

The whole weekend went off without a hitch and I managed to stay technology free for over 24 hours. I left my laptop and work cell phone at home and left my personal cell phone in the car while we were out and about. The break was much needed after a horrendous, highly stressful, emotional day at work on Friday. Thanks to him I had a much needed wonderfully planned, relaxing weekend! I love you Kenny and thanks again – it was a very memorable weekend and it was wonderful to spend the undivided and stress-free time with my best friend away from the worries of every-day life!

I had to work all weekend and yesterday, but Boy made reservations at PF Chang’s and took me out before my monthly shrink appointment and then I had to head to work. I wish I’d been able to spend the rest of the evening with him, but oh well. I don’t ever make much of a fuss over Valentine’s Day anyway.

I’m still chuckling over the word “blurkers.”

Your pictures make me want to skip class tomorrow and run away to the Island. Man, I love it down there. Sure, it isn’t the most beautiful beach, but there is just something about it.

I’m glad Kenny planned such a great weekend for you – I know you really needed it! And you deserved it too. :)
