Spring is here…
March 16th 2006 by cybertoad in domestic, images, re-capsI have been meaning to write about my weekend activities all week but haven’t had a chance to yet! I have been swamped at work and after-hours. I won’t go into a detailed weekend re-cap like I usually do but I wanted to share with you our efforts in the back yard.
Ever since I created my back garden bed, I have been wanting to replace the cheap plastic border with brick. I didn’t do it at first because I was trying to be cheap about it but I have longingly wanted to pretty up the back. The time and energy wasn’t there though and to be honest, last year I completely ignored the back garden. I didn’t plant anything new and I made no attempt to work on it and maintain it.
This year though I got motivated so last Saturday while Kenny was at the dentist I pulled out old straggly plants and cleared the bed as much as possible. I then dragged Kenny to the store when he got home and loaded up the Jeep with 64 bricks, a couple of bags of sand and other minor supplies.
The weather was great – not too hot and the the sun was behind clouds all afternoon – and with the help of our wheelbarrow to carry the bricks and bags of soil from the front to the back of the house, Kenny and I were done in less than a couple of hours. The new brick border looks wonderful and the garden bed looks ready for new spring plantings after I dumped four huge bags of specially formulated replenishing soil. Below are before and after pictures… and a few more from that day…
