It Takes Two to Tango

Well, Kenny kept his word. We are taking tango classes together! Woo-hoo! Over a year ago one night while we were out with friends he told me if he was ever going to take a dance class with me it would have to be tango. He likes the music and the dance seems alluring to him, especially after having spent more than 2 months in Argentina on a work project.
It just so happens that my beginner salsa teacher, Joan, is primarily a tango instructor and an amazing tango dancer. She is very active in the local tango group, the Houston Argentine Tango Association (HATA) so I wanted to take classes from her. After putting it off for a while I finally put us on the waiting list for the beginner class and after several months of waiting we got in to her class! Last night was the first class one-hour class (seven classes total).
Now Kenny and I have *never* taken a class together. And as he told me last night, he hasn’t had any formal dance instruction since he was 6 and learned some basic jitterbug moves in elementary school for a play. So this is going to be interesting to say the least! I am used to Joan’s teaching style and was happily surprised to find my salsa teacher Raul there as well (she has a handful of assistants since the beginner class is so big) so I am not that nervous but many of the beginners like Kenny are a bit trepid in their steps.
Overall, I think it went well and Kenny did great. We will constantly be switching partners, which doesn’t thrill Kenny, but it is necessary so he can learn it correctly. If he and I were paired together the entire course, he’d only know how to lead me, not anyone else!
I’ll keep you posted on our progress!

That is sooooo cool. Daniel and I are dying to take a dance class together. Maybe sometime next year when we are done with school. Keep us posted on how it goes!
