Pirates, Clerks, Deckchairs, Zombies & Dark Water

Time for movie reviews!

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest: As always, Johnny Depp looked sexy in eye liner but the movie was OK. Not as good as the first and hard to follow at times as you try to remember old characters and such, but entertaining. Pirates 2 won’t win awards but a fun family flick. And of course, the ending completely sets you up for the 3rd movie, already in production

Clerks: We still haven’t gone to see Clerks 2 but we wanted to refresh our memories and re-watch the original Clerks. It’s more hilarious each time I see it and the dialogue will have you laughing at things you know you shouldn’t be laughing at. Great film and the precurser to all of Kevin Smith’s more mainstream films.

Shaun of the Dead: I had already seen this but we watched it one Friday night at our friends (EJ & Sherry’s). Great British film spoofing all zombie movies. Pretty funny although it does get a bit too heavy at the end (you kind of stop laughing when things get really dire). It lightens up again at the film’s ending.

Dark Water: Ugh. What a waste. This story had so much potential – and they went nowhere with it. Character development was minimal and the spookiness factor could have been high. Instead, the cinematography was boring, the acting dull, and and there was nothing truly creepy or spooky – plus, the mystery is easily figured out with a visual clue early in the movie. In short, I wouldn’t waste your money renting it.

The previews for Dark Water kept freaking me out for some reason, but not entirely in the scary movie way. Maybe I just sensed the suck level of the movie in advance.

We really need to go see Clerks 2. Maybe Friday? (It is the last weekend before school starts so I have to make sure we have nothing on the calendar, but we should be free.)

Pirates 2 definitely not as good as the first but still worth seeing.

As for Dark Water, I left the theater half way through. It was awful.
