Cleaning, napping, geocaching…

Posted by cybertoad on 05/01/2006 in re-caps |

Well, another weekend come & gone. This one was a nice mix of fun and work…

Friday night: We stayed in and watched a movie (movie review forthcoming) and were generally lazy. We potentially had a neighborhood garage sale the next morning but severe storms were predicted so I was 99% sure it would be postponed so I didn’t do anything to get ready.

Saturday: Sure enough, it stormed and there was no garage sale. Instead I slept in for a little bit then headed over to a co-worker’s home to babysit her kids. She was traveling back from her business trip and didn’t have anyone to watch her 3 and 8 year olds for a few hours so I did her the favor.

Saturday night: We had intentions of going out to a movie but it never happened so instead we stayed in yet again, had spaghetti for dinner and watched another movie (review forthcoming as well).

Sunday: We had nothing planned so after sleeping in we headed out and ran a few errands. Since I had been cleaning out closets and cabinets for the garage sale I had also cleared out 4 bags of clothing as well as other odds and ends so we took them to Goodwill for donation. I anticipate sending more clothes their way because I intend to continue to go through my clothes but at least this was start.

Afterward we got some tapioca slushies and went in search of geocaches. Kenny was recently introduced to the world of geocaching by a friend and he wanted to go find some. He had his GPS and his handheld and the coordinates of two of the caches in the area we were in.

We found the park where the first cache was hidden but after 15 minutes of looking we weren’t able to find the cache itself. We hope to come back and try again. We had better luck with the 2nd cache though (I found it, thank you very much) and signed the log book inside it. It was more fun than I had thought it would be so I have gone ahead and signed up at Geocaching.com and will be joining Kenny on future hunts. It will be something Kenny and I can do together and he already has plans to create his own cache.

After the second find we headed home but first with a stop by Borders. Since I am actually reading once again, I am going through my pile of books and wanted to replenish the pile. I walked out with four new books I look forward to reading.

We also stopped at a local nursery. I pulled up the old pansies I had out front a couple of weeks ago and needed to find some new plants to replace them. I stuck with good old lantana since the butterflies love it but I picked a variety that is pink and yellow (like the one in the picture on the website I linked to) instead of just yellow like most of the lantana out there.

Sunday night: We napped when we got home and then I found some energy to go through a few more cabinets and find more stuff for the garage sale. It feels good to get this stuff out of there and find room once more. The cabinets and closets were getting stuffed with junk and they now are more reasonable. I don’t think I’ll get much for this stuff but a few bucks will be nice. Anything unsold gets donated.

I ended the night working late on a report for work that I had forgotten was due first thing in the morning. I stayed up later than I should but it’s because I started so late on it. It got done though!

Kenny flies out to Atlanta this morning for a week-long conference so he will be gone till Saturday – which sucks because the garage sale is Saturday and I may be sitting out there alone unless I can find someone to sit with me. Anyone want to volunteer?

OK, I better get back to work now! It is almost time for lunch!

Geocaching sounds cool, but what kind of GPS do you use, and where do you get them? I’ve been very curious about this.

After getting to take a deduction on the taxes this year for donationing things, I’ll never do a garage sale again. The donation tax break was totally worth the effort! Make sure you keep track of what you donate, and look into what things are going for in stores or on Ebay to get their value. Just a few trips to make donations made a big difference!
