The State Fair, sculptures & good friends…
Wow. Sorry about that! Hanna sent me a friendly reminder that I needed to post and she was right! It’s been a week already… Thing is I just have not been around. I’ll explain why in my weekend re-cap…
It is a long re-cap so I will put the detail in the extended section below the pictures from this weekend.I have tons more pictures to upload but I have at least started the Flickr set…

Thursday night: Our dear friend Gelli was in a Disney-sponsored school production and we wanted to go and see her big stage debut! She didn’t have any lines but that’s fine! She did an awesome job as a skater chick and the play in general was very well done, despite the audio issues.
Friday: Kenny and I took the day off from work to head to Dallas for the weekend. We haven’t been in ages and I really wanted to catch up with my friends. We had the whole weekend planned out.
Friday evening: Arrived without incident in about 3 1/2 hours, checked into our hotel and then headed into town to meet Pamela and family for an early dinner. We had a great time catching up and their kids are so grown and well-behaved! It had been too long and the conversation was great. I miss having you guys in Houston!
Friday night: After dinner Kenny and I headed Downtown. Kenny wanted to check out the electronics flea market 1st Saturday but we got there too early so we walked around. I took some great night-time shots and we even went up the Reunion Tower (the lit up sphere seen in the Dallas skyline) for a bird’s-eye view.
Eventually wandered back to the flea market where we met my friend Rob. I took a nap in the back of the car while Kenny and Rob looked around. Didn’t make it back to the hotel until about 2 AM.
Saturday morning: Kathy (and her husband and her sister) picked me up at the hotel since Kenny was skipping the morning’s activities and just meeting us at the fair grounds. We had breakfast and headed Downtown to meet Rob and Lou at the Nasher Sculpture Center. What a gorgeous center! The weather was perfect (blue skies, cool weather) and the gardens are beautiful. One of the pictures I posted above is from the Nasher.
Saturday afternoon: After taking the special events shuttle from Downtown to the Texas State Fair and after waiting and inordinate amount of time in a huge disorganized line with hundreds of football fans (OU v. UT game at the Cotton Bowl right there on the fair grounds), we finally get in and meet Kenny who had already been in for a while.
Spent the rest of the day at the fair, taking tons of photos (over 400), walking a lot and getting some sun. Activities included riding the big ferris wheel (largest one in North America), the large slide and a couple of other carnival rides, watching the hog races, some Chinese acrobats and Native American dancers and having Fletcher’s Corny Dogs, the original corny dog!
Saturday night: When we left around 6:30 PM we were all exhausted so we called it a night!
Sunday: Kenny and I slept in and checked out minutes before noon. Drove home without issues once again and were happy to be home by 4:00 PM. We couldn’t rest too much though because we had a company dinner to attend. The dinner was a lot of fun and gave me a chance to see my department in a casual non-corporate environment for the first time.
And then we crashed when we got home! Whew! What a fun but busy weekend!! It was wonderful to see all those friends though!!! I am still recovering though and my schedule has stayed busy, hence the delay!
