2007 Mesker-Garcia Holiday Letter
Hope it has been happy and full of love!
I thought I’d share our holiday newsletter below the jump…. enjoy!
Four more days till Christmas…
…and I *finally* got the Christmas cards out (below is what they looked like, photo is mine). Hey, better late than never, right?
December has flown by at lightening speed. My 34th birthday came and went (it was on the 13th) and our annual birthday / holiday party was a huge success. I had a handful of photography assignments this month as well including a couple of holiday family sessions. Thanks Hanna for letting me photograph yours!
So at this moment I find myself at work, counting the minutes down until I can start the holiday vacation. My company has a “use it or lose it” policy regarding time off so in order to not lose any vacation I am taking next week off. Combined with the days the office is closing for Christmas and New Year’s, once I leave today I am out until January 2nd. Woo-hoo!
Our holiday plans include a holiday get-together at my boss’ house tonight and a quick trip to Waxahachie to spend Christmas eve and day with Kenny’s mom. I also hope to use my time off after Christmas to catch up with friends. Yay!
Hope you guys have a safe holiday! Travel safely, eats lots of good food and enjoy your time with family and friends. Cheers!

Morphing into Gloria Estefan
Not one of my most glamours shots (and kind of an old shot, from 2002 when we were in London) but one of the only shots I have that is straight on. I was happily surprised to see how well I morphed into Gloria Estefan, a fellow Cuban! What do you think?
It’s December already!
So December is now here and I haven’t posted since Thanksgiving… Here you go…
The Thanksgiving holidays were good – since Kenny & I don’t have family here in the Houston area other than my Mom, we were “adopted” by some friends over the holidays so after all was said and done we had three Thanksgiving meals, the last one being with my Mom and turkey free (we had delicious pork loin instead cooked by Kenny).
Photography projects are what is keeping me busy this month. After shooting two weddings earlier this month, I also shot an engagement session the weekend before Thanksgiving and then the couple’s wedding the day after Thanksgiving. This past weekend I had the Yale Street Art Market on Saturday and a family holiday session Sunday. Need less to say I have had no time for my personal photography. Add to that the fact that Christine is recovering from surgery (she is doing really well), things on the photography side have been more hectic than usual.
Nothing else too exciting is going on… Kenny & I have been under the weather for the past week but I think we are slowly recovering. I feel much better although Kenny is still battling his annual coughing spell. I don’t think the huge temperature fluctuations are really helping either as we switch between the heater and the A/C. This has been the wackiest fall weather yet!
Hope everyone out there in the blogworld is doing well! And take my advice, take your Vitamin C and stay away from all the sick people out there! LOL
Happy 1st Birthday Emma!
I have taken too long to update!!
Wow! I had a blog post written up and then never posted it… and now another week has come and gone… so much too tell, so little time so I will do a very general write-up!
Social: I am trying to make new friends and have had the honor of meeting two lovely ladies through Flickr – Aggie Christine (not to be confused with Big Pink Cookie Christine) and Tracy. I’ve had a blast with them, especially during the Sunday matinee of the Tony-winning musical, Avenue Q. Those ladies are dangerously funny and I look forward to more laughter with them.
Domestic: The house is finally tidy again since I had to clean it up for my garden club meeting (I was hosting for the November meeting). Finally had a couple of friends over for dinner this Friday night and I cooked the whole meal (I know, shocking) and everyone raved. Kenny especially liked my homemade calamari claiming it was restaurant-quality. Trick there was avoid over-cooking and adding some Penzey’s Sunny Spain Seasoning… yum!
Photography: Wow! This has what has kept me the busiest!!! A Yale Street Art Market came and went (it was finally sunny instead of rainy), Christine and I shot TWO weddings in one day last weekend (read the amazing story here) and I had an engagement session on Saturday since Christine is in the hospital for surgery (she is fine, yay!) Jeff helped me with the session and I learned a few things so I am very appreciative… The couple is getting married this Friday, the day after Thanksgiving so we have a third wedding to shoot this month.
Today I am in the office taking turkey orders for Thanksgiving (we have a call center & you can order cooked meals from any of our restaurants). I am almost done here and then can head home at noon. I hope to visit Christine today as well who finally heads home today, woo-hoo!
I will go ahead and close this post with one of my favoirte shots from yesterday’s session…

Wigs, Punchy Punch, Salsa & Friends
I should probably post my weekend update before another weekend flies by!! This past weekend was a busy one…
Friday: Stayed home in preparation for a busy Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday: Kenny and I had to run errands and get the supplies for my infamous “trash can punch”. I prepare this alcoholic concoction every year for the Hunyadi’s Halloween party which was taking place later that evening…
Saturday night: Had a blast at the Halloween Party. This is their 6th year hosting it and this year’s theme was Sci-Fi. I went as Jane Jetson and Kenny went as the Fourth Dr. Who (played by Tom Baker). He even had the 12 foot scarf! He worked for 2 months on getting the costume together and it showed – he looked just like the Doctor and he won the overall costume contest for the evening! The trash can punch was also a hit once again and produced many happy smiles by the end of the night and much off-key karaoke. LOL
Sunday: I hardly drink alcohol anymore and although I did not have a full-blown hangover I did have a dull headache. 😛 I needed to head out though because I had plans to meet Hanna and Kathy (visiting from Dallas) for lunch in Old Town Spring. I had a good time seeing the girls even if I was a bit quiet.
Sunday night: I still owed my Mom a birthday dinner so Kenny and I took her to Outback. I {heart} prime rib!
Monday night: I started salsa class back up and my body was achy already from wearing platform heels Saturday night. I am in the worse shape ever and it was weird to be back in class with people I didn’t know. Time will tell whether or not I can get motivated enough to join the salsa demo team. I know I can do it; it’s just whether or not I have the time and energy to do it. We’ll see…
Oh, and to drag out my fatigue, I had to wake up early Tuesday morning and get Kenny to the airport by 6:30 AM. He has been in Spokane, Washington since then and won’t be back home until late Sunday night. So as you can imagine I felt like I was hardly home but I took the opportunity Tuesday & Wednesday night to stay in and rest. It’s really helped and I’ve even managed to get some stuff done around the house. Yay! But here we go again with another busy weekend… I’ve got Yale Street Art Market tomorrow all day but at least it looks like the weather is *finally* going to be wonderful and *not* rainy as it has been for the past several months on First Saturday. Woo-hoo!!
