Haircut, baby shower, pirates & pictures…

Posted by cybertoad on 11/01/2006 in re-caps |

Wow – it’s almost Thursday and I haven’t updated you guys!! Thing is I have to lay off the web surfing while at work and I really haven’t had a chance to blog from home in the evenings!! That is my excuse this week for why I am so late. I’ll try to be short and sweet though…

Friday night: I was finally able to schedule a hair appointment! Yay! Afterward I met my Mom, took her to dinner and headed home for the rest of the evening.

A Pirate Couple Saturday: This was a busy day! I packed and headed to the post office to ship my latest eBay sales then headed to Hanna’s for her baby shower (I was a hostess). That went well and she got some great baby loot! I stayed a while and visited with her family then headed to a Halloween party that was only a mile away at another friend’s house. Hanna came along for a little despite being tired. Thanks for coming out!

The party was fun – it was a pirate theme, arr – but I konked out by midnight. I had simply had a long day and hadn’t been home since 11:30 AM (over 12 hours)!

Sunday: Headed out to Tomball to The Arbor Gate Nursery where I met Hanna and Christine for a photography seminar. I was late because I didn’t realize how far the drive was. Oh well, the info provided wasn’t that groundbreaking but as Christine says, it was free! We spent some time afterward taking photos around the nursery. I even managed to lose my glasses (I was wearing my sunglasses, my regular lenses were hanging off of my pocket). I finally found them along a pathway I had been too at the very beginning and I breathed a sigh of relief.

The ice cream with girlfriends afterward was my favorite part of the day though.

Sunday night: Regular salsa training class and then some rest in front of the TV. Yay!

If I were President…

Posted by cybertoad on 10/26/2006 in commentary, fun stuff, me |

1) There would be a law put in place that mandated twice as many bathroom stalls for women as men in all new buildings.

2) There’d be a TiVo in every home!

3) Pets would count as dependants and owners would get tax benefits. Not as much as kids but they should get something!

4) Spammers would be eligible for the death penalty.

5) All printers would have to take a full ream of paper. I can’t stand having to split a ream up when I refill my printer.

Tee, hee – what would you do if you were President?

Tango, Orange Show, Mom & Salsa

Posted by cybertoad on 10/25/2006 in re-caps |

Wow – the weekend is almost here and I haven’t even posted my recap from last weekend. Oops! Where did the time go! Well, the recap will be short and sweet…

Friday night: I was invited to videotape a tango performance. I got a free dinner out of it and saw a lovely performance but unfortunately, the lighting was so low all I got on tape were shadows. *sigh*

Saturday: I had a lot more planned for this day but several things got canceled so I was able to take it easy. Spent the afternoon at The Orange Show taking pictures for Assignment Houston then headed south to meet a friend for an early dinner of sushi. We had a lovely time catching up with her and seeing her adorable little boy.

Sunday: My Mother’s birthday was on the 19th and we still owed her a birthday meal so she joined us and we had a late lunch to celebrate. After she headed home I headed out to my weekly salsa training class. That was an interesting session since we actually spent half the class working on our movement and doing various movement exercises to the sounds of West African drumming music. It was pretty fun!

Then the weekend was over as quickly as it came and once again I felt like I got nothing accomplished. C’est la vie, n’est pas?

Do you like cats??

Posted by cybertoad on 10/21/2006 in misc |

Yesterday I mentioned how I am selling jewelry on eBay – well, I have got the cutest vintage cat broach selling and no one seems to even be looking at it!! I bought this a while ago and thought it would sell easily because it’s so darn, well, cute!

So, I am pimping it here on the blog in the off-chance any of my faithful readers is a cat-lover or knows of one. I priced it cheap too!

Ginger Cuteness!!

Posted by cybertoad on 10/20/2006 in fun stuff, images, misc |

Happy Friday – I thought I’d share some doxie adorableness with you on this gorgeous fall Friday!

The story behind the pic… OK, I guess advertisement does work! I totally bought this toy for Ginger because of the PetSmart commercial which is linked below – you must see it if you haven’t already!!!!! And yes, she is pretty attached to this guy. I might go buy another one too… BTW, I bought her a smaller version – the one in the commercial is larger but I thought it was a bit much for my old fat Ginger.

Ginger's new toy!

Catching up with me…

Posted by cybertoad on 10/19/2006 in me |

So it’s been a while since I came in here and just caught you up on what’s going on in life. I guess I have so much going on right now! You can probably tell from my weekend re-caps… Let’s see, where to begin…

Work is going fine. I really like the atmosphere of my new company. It is so much more positive and employee-centered. It’s a bit slow for me right now so the days drag on but hopefully that will change soon. There is no more work-related stress and I really enjoy being so close to home. I actually get home by 5:30 PM.

While work is no longer stressing me out I have found the energy (well, it doesn’t always feel like I have the energy) to pursue a few of my hobbies more earnestly. I have started to attend weekly 2-hour salsa training classes in the hopes of becoming an instructor early next year. I also continue to attend weekly classes as well so that is about 3 ½ hours of salsa a week. Now if I could only find time to hit the clubs and actually dance!

The photography print business is still moving forward. Christine and I have tons to do still and our first art festival is only 3 weeks away but I know we’ll make it. I just want to get through this first festival because I know the rest will be so much easier! It’s this initial festival where we have to set everything up for the first time, think out our costs, guess what will sell, set prices, figure out displays and assemble the inventory. Ugh. So much to do! Aah!!! Thanks for all of the support – both friends and family. Your encouragement gives me the courage to go through with this.

Pointing Up Photography also takes up my weekends as I grab my camera and go on excursions. I can easily take hundreds of pictures in just a few hours that need to be sorted, cleaned up and uploaded. I am having a blast with it though and I am really noticing an improvement in my photographs overall. There is a substantial difference between the pictures I first posted on Flickr over a year ago and what I am posting now. And it is mostly thanks to the Flickr community! I am not as involved as some but I try to be more than just a bystander. I just wish I had more time in there…

Hmm… other news… still active in the garden club as historian although I mostly ignored my garden this summer. I know, I am a bad gardener. I’ve had some success on eBay selling mostly vintage silver jewelry from my collection and that has helped raised a few funds to help with some of the initial photography business costs. Oh, I am also getting really excited about Hanna’s upcoming arrival, Emma, who will be a Sagittarian just like me! And next week Kenny and I celebrate 8 years of marriage, can you believe it?? Heidi and Ginger continue to be their funny dogselves and are fortunately happy and healthy despite their age (both are 13).

I think that covers most of it. I am pretty happy although I do have a few areas of discontent – mostly having to do with unfinished projects and getting motivated to complete them (that is where my stress comes from) and my lack of energy. One of these projects has to do with getting back to eating healthier. I have gained back about 15 lbs. of the 23 or so lbs. I lost and I am extremely unhappy about this – actually disappointed in myself and hating how clothes are fitting me… but with everything else going on, I can’t seem to focus on that right now. *sigh* I’ll get there. I know I will. I just need to slow down… yeah, right… LOL

Blue Men, old airport, lots of rain…

Posted by cybertoad on 10/17/2006 in re-caps |

Here you go!!! My weekend re-cap! Woo-hoo!

Friday – We had tickets to go see the Blue Man Group so did Christine and Mike so we met them for an early pre-show dinner at Josephine’s and walked over to the Toyota Center (just a couple of blocks away). It was my 1st time in the Toyota Center but my 3rd time to see Blue Man Group – they were entertaining as always even though they did some of the same acts as before. Tracy Bonham was a treat though… she has a beautiful voice.

SaturdayThe Houston Photobloggers were meeting at the 1940 Air Terminal Museum to take pictures “behind-the-scenes” so I met them there and spent 3 hours shooting away. It was nice to meet some local photographers in person and although I am still wading through my pictures, I have started to post a few up at Flickr in this set.

Saturday night – Had dinner with a friend and put my feet up the rest of the evening.

Sunday – I had the house to myself for most of the afternoon while Kenny was out so I tidied up – washed laundry, put away dishes, threw out junkmail… Christine then came over and we made some final business decisions regarding our print business. Pretty low-key day with constant rain. The rain was nice though so I left the back door open most of the day and listened to the rain falling.

Sunday night – Made it (although I was late) to my first salsa instructor training class. We will be meeting every Sunday night for the rest of the year for two hours to get more specialized training so we can hopefully start teaching classes in January. I am nervous but after meeting some of the other trainees I think I’ll be OK. I actually am a little more advanced than a couple of them so if my teacher thinks they can do it, I should be able to.

It continued to rain all Sunday, into the night and was still raining Monday morning. It was raining so badly that flooding was occurring so some schools were canceled. Kenny stayed in and worked from home to avoid the traffic snarls. Today we finally saw blue skies but we also had warm humid weather. Yuck. I thought were were done with summer? What’s the weather like where you live?
