Hey you!

Posted by cybertoad on 07/05/2006 in fun stuff, images |

I am working on an update post but in the meantime, I have started a new category, the “Photo Gallery”. Since I am trying to get back into photography I want to try post a photo or two every week. Some of you have already seen this image but since I am having a hard time getting back into the swing of things after the day off I thought this guy would help me. I took the picture during an excursion to the zoo back in late May…

*Tap, tap* Anyone still reading this?

Posted by cybertoad on 06/30/2006 in misc |

OK, Mike has been a WP angel and has been working on my database to get the error to go away and I think he may have been successful. He is still testing some stuff out though.

Since I have been so quiet though I’ve been wondering who is still reading me out there… so as a way to test the comments and to say hello, please go ahead and drop me a line.

If the issue is finally fixed I promise you’ll see a lot more of me around here. 🙂 I’ve got tons to catch you up on!

Yes – I am *still* here!!

Hey guys – I am soooooo sorry I haven’t posted in weeks in almost a month! Yikes! I have just wanted to resolve this friggin’ comments issue but to no avail!

Anyway – this post will have to be comment-less but feel ree to drop me a line to say hello. I’ll keep looking into the comments issue and hope to come back sooner rather than later with some major updates! Cheers!

Comments are broken…

Posted by cybertoad on 05/30/2006 in misc |

I upgraded WordPress this weekend and I think I somehow “broke” my comments. I think it’s a quick fix from what I can see but I need some technical help and I haven’t gotten around to it. I’ll try to as soon as possible. Allergies hit me hard last night and knocked me out and I don’t think I’ll make it through the day since I hardly slept last night so comments will get fixed when I’m up to it. Hope you had a good holiday weekend…

I was the Houstonist Flickr Group Photo Of The Day

Posted by cybertoad on 05/18/2006 in images, me |

My Favorite Mural in Houston The Houstonist is a great group blog written by fellow Houstonites. It is similar to Metroblogging Houston and is on my list of regular reads. They recently started a Flickr group and have been picking a photo a day to feature on the site. I was going through the site and found out that one of my photos had been selected as the Houstonist Flickr Group Photo Of The Day for Tuesday, the 16th. Cool, huh? Check it out and go check out the rest of the site!

Bob Saget, Art Cars, Mom

Posted by cybertoad on 05/17/2006 in re-caps |

The weekend was sunny on Saturday, stormy and rainy on Sunday – but I had fun either way! Here is a re-cap…

Thursday night: I forgot to mention last week that Thursday afternoon our friends invited us at the last minute to go see Bob Saget at a local comedy club. I was up for it but a bit dubious and how fun it was going to be. OMG! Mr. Saget’s comedy is a far cry from and on the other side of the spectrum of the character he played on Full House and the persona he used when he hosted America’s Funniest Home Videos! He was crude, intelligent, rude, witty, cursed like a sailor and he was hilarious! Suffice to say he had me laughing and his last song, “Danny Tanner Was Not Gay” was awesome! I am glad we went.

Friday night: Kenny and I have been extremely lazy socially so after he played pool on Friday Kenny was sweet and asked me to go out to avoid just crashing on the couch in front of the TV. We headed out to Freebirds for dinner and finished the evening at Brasil’s, our favorite coffee shop, where we had a great time just talking face-to-face alone. We need to do this more often and I had a great evening with my husband.

Saturday: We woke up early and *finally* had the garage sale. We only stayed out till 11 AM but we made about $35 and got rid of about 1/3 of our stuff. We loaded up the unsold stuff into the Jeep for donation to Goodwill.

At 11 AM our friends came by and as a group we drove Downtown to go watch the 19th Annual Art Car Parade. It’s a fun, free Houston tradition and it’s the first time I really made an effort to see the whole parade. We found a great spot along the parade route sitting under a large oak tree in the shade and even snagged some chairs (we didn’t bring our own). We saw the whole parade from start to finish (over 200 cars). Below is one of my favorites photos and I made a Flickr set from the best shots.

The FruitMobile

Saturday night: The day had been warm and long so yes, we crashed for the rest of the afternoon, took naps and watched TV. LOL.

Sunday: My mother was coming over for Mother’s Day that evening so Kenny and ran a few errands but a strong afternoon storm drove us back home! It cleared up by the time my Mom came over and we had a lovely grilled steak dinner.

And that was our weekend!

A TV Character to Admire

Posted by cybertoad on 05/11/2006 in commentary |

Kenny and I watch Boston Legal religiously – it is one of the smartest shows out there with some intelligent writing. Not just funny and witty but actually thought out in terms of the statements they are making with each case they try.

Over and over, James Spader‘s character, Alan Shore, gives amazing, insightful speeches. He is so eloquent and often hits the topic on target using arguments both Kenny and I completely agree with. The weekly issues are current and range from political to ethical to just ludicrous but Kenny and I enjoy each episode. Go see it if you haven’t already!

I know most of you don’t read my Garden Blog but I still wanted to make the announcement over here… A couple of weeks ago I started to blog about gardening in the Reader’s Blog section of the Houston Chronicle’s website. I was invited and have partnered up with another Houston gardener, Heather, who also has her own garden blog.

So come out check out our group garden blog by heading over to Green Space!

Saying good-bye, IKEA, Central Market…

Posted by cybertoad on 05/08/2006 in re-caps |

Ugh. Why can’t I find the motivation to be productive on my weekends?? Wah. Here’s my re-cap…

Friday night: My dear friend Kathy is moving away to Dallas and this was her last weekend in town so I invited some friends over to the house to say good-bye. We scarfed down a party-size lasagna, had margaritas in honor of Cinco de Mayo and chatted the evening away. She will be sorely missed but I know we’ll see each other sooner rather than later! Good luck in Dallas Kathy & Tom!!!

Saturday: Once again, this was *supposed* to be the rain date for the neighborhood garage sale but it was pouring rain at 8 AM so it was postponed yet again. The third and final try will be this coming Saturday but that is the same day as the Art Car Parade so I am debating what to do. Is it work sitting there all day for a little bit of cash or should I just forget about it, donate the items, maybe selling a handful on eBay? Kenny says he could skip the Art Car Parade and sit at the garage sale for us. I don’t know… The only good thing is at least I didn’t have to sit there all by myself this past Saturday and I was able to sleep in.

Saturday afternoon: Kenny flew back in from Atlanta where he had been all week at a conference. I didn’t let him sit at home too long though. We got out and ran some errands – we dropped off our recycling, got a few things for the house at IKEA and spent too much money at Central Market (as always).

Since Kenny had been traveling, he wanted to stay in for the night so we did.

Sunday: Another lazy day. I wanted to clean up my office and go through files and I wanted to go through the closet and get rid of clothes but did I? Nope. I crashed on the couch with Kenny till the afternoon when we got up and had a late lunch/early dinner at Panera’s. Kenny then left to meet a friend for pool while I headed to Hermann Park.

The idea for me was to a) play with my new camera and b) take pictures for this group assignment at Flickr. Neither happened. First of all, even at 5 PM the park was crowded and I had trouble finding a parking spot. Secondly, because the park was crowded I just couldn’t find any good, inspirational shots (I don’t like to take pictures of people, I prefer nature and architectural shots). The sky was not overcast but it wasn’t blue either, the lighting wasn’t that great and I I was just in a bad mood so I headed home after a short walk around.

I hope to return to Hermann Park next weekend – maybe go to the Zoo since I can’t remember the last time I was there. Anyone want to join me?

It’s here, it’s here!

Posted by cybertoad on 05/05/2006 in images, misc |

My new toy is here… Canon’s Digital Rebel XT, a whopping 8 MP of pixelated goodness!

See, over a year ago I sold the NikonCoolPix 5700 I had because I never did get used to it. It didn’t feel comfortable in my hands and I was never happy with its initial performance so we sold it to recover some of the money Kenny spent on it. I then asked him not to replace it because I had been too busy to really run around on photo shoots like I used to. Instead I had him upgrade my “party pic” camera (Canon Elph S410).

Well, it’s been way too long and I am missing that creative side of me. I have become too overwhelmed with work issues and I have neglected the artistic side for way too long. Kenny was noticing this and has been wanting to get me a digital Rebel since they came out. I finally gave him the go-ahead and he ordered it for me this past week.

I am just so thrilled to have it in my hands. My old, trusty, wonderful Elph is great for parties but I was getting so frustrated lately because it has no macro capabilities and it isn’t meant to be taking creative, artistic photos that I used to enjoy taking. I hope to try it out this weekend if the weather cooperates (it might not). Yay. I’m just so excited! LOL!
